Inspiration for our film

Task 19: Sound

Sound

For our soundtrack we are planning to use a sorrowful and deep melody that portrays the protagonists situation in this part of the film which is quite depressing and stressful.

The following track is something we feel is suitable for our film and it is quite slow. It fits well with the nature of the abuse and will give the audience an idea of what is happening. It is also not too quick or upbeat and will be played when the father is walking up the stairs and abuses the son.

Another possibility is this track called 'Better Days'. We have considered this because we feel it really reflects the mood of the opening sequence and it is very slow and mellow which is perfect. It is similar to 'Tomorrow" but has subtle differences.

The track below is for the latter stages of our opening sequence when Mckenzie finds the letter from his mother. The track represents hope which is perfect for what we want and is contrasting to the rest of the production. It is faster and more upbeat which makes it a happier song.

We are also planning on using the actors to create the sound effects themselves as it adds realism to the scene. This will portray the brutal integrity of the topic

Learning comment
I have learnt that sound plays a huge part in the opening sequence of any film. It can create the mood and atmosphere that can inform the audience more about the scene than if there was a absence of sound. Also we decided to use a cross between diegetic and non diegetic sound to really put you in the scene. it also adds to the brutality and rawness of the topc we're portraying, leaving a lasting effect on the audience.

Task 18: Typography

However, we though all these where over the top for a drama film. They look like they'd come from a video game or comic so we decided to use an old fashioned typewriter font (New Courier Bold) that creates a more honest and respected feel. By keeping it simple it doesn't look as if we're joking around, this is a very serious topic and we don't want to dis respect it by using a fancy and unsuitable font.

Task 17: Props, location and fashion planning - Risk assessment

Props
Beer bottles- provides context of what the day t day life is like inside the Tate's household. There could be a health risk when using these as one could perhaps fall off a sideboard and smash, however this is very unlikely.
Make up- We needed make up to show that McKenzie had been previously before by his dad.
Letter- McKenzie's mother wrote him a letter saying how she'll always love him and when she dies she'll always look down on him. The letter is very personal as it motivates McKenzie when he is at his lowest points'
Clothing- we needed the clothing to match the individual characters representation. Keith needed to look dominant over his son, by using a overcoat it showed his superiority.

This is our messages confirming what they need to wear for the shoot.

This is my partner asking his mum to purchase the alcohol bottles we need.

Favourite pastime: Drugs and alcohol to forget and numb the pain. He has very little physical interest and so very rarely does any type of physical activity.
Consideration for others: Doesn't care about his family and treats them badly. Isn't bothered and doesn't realise how his drinking and drug taking affects people around him. He's usually under the influence of drugs making him an outcast from the local community. His disorderly behaviour also means he has more enemies than friends.
How other people see him: Other people have little respect for him however feel too threatened and scared to stand up to him. They see him as a monster who's gone past the point of recovery. His bad habits are slowly destroying hum and the others around him.
Other traits: He is very stubborn and arrogant and isn't willing to change for others which is shown later in the film. He's very old hearted and his only passion is to drink the pain and grief away.
Readers will dislike this character because he is abusive. However some people may have some sort of sympathy for this character as they can clearly see his life's depressing and in some ways he's not to blame for his actions.

She treats him like a human being unlike his father, he usually goes round her house after school and weekends to escape from his home-life. She' very comforting and understanding, they've know each there from a young age.
Job:Works at local grocery store in order to support himself. His dad doesn't agree with his son working because he's a control freak towards his son. When he's working is dad has no control over his actions making Keith slightly more aggressive. The money usually goes towards food and clothes. Task 15: Storyboarding and shot lists

Here is our first draft of our storyboard for Escapism, we may change parts and will therefore re-draw it and make it into a final storyboard.

Below is our shortlist for Escapism.

Learning comment
From this task i have learnt how to correctly do a shot list and how important it coincides with a storyboard. the shot list describes whats it meant to look like, by creating a shot list it creates an image in your head of what it's meant to look like.

Task 14: Draft & Final Script

First draft of the script for Escapism

Final Script

Learning comment
From this task I have learnt how to start some sort of script. it's made me think how to present different aspects of film through a script for example the way in which people say their lines and the directions for their acting. Even though our script is a few lines long, it's made me appreciate how much effort and preparation goes into making a script. It's also put me in the mind set of a director, this along with the storyboard has made it much easier to film the scene as we could arrive at the location and begin filming, knowing exactly what to say and the shots we needed.

Task 13: Audience Profile

Audience profile from Tom Constable

learning comment
from this task i have thought about who the audience are and why they're the target audience. It's allowed me to identify certain characteristics about the different audiences, this helps us have some sort of idea of the mise-en-scene that we should include to appeal to the said audiences. we also looked at the gender our film is predominantly aimed at males, throughout the film we will include more masculinity as that's our demographic. However the problem is abuse, the happens to both male and female so we won't over create the image of only boys get abused.
